Today's draw changed tournament chances for a couple of semistates. Clay City moved ahead of Hauser in 1A South, and Attucks inched ahead of New Pal in 3A South. My other favorites in the South are Lawrence North and Parke Heritage. In the North I have Fishers, St. Joseph, 21st

The 196 combined points of St. Joe and Maconaquah tied for 15th in any tournament game ever played. The record is 228, set in 1999 when North Newton beat River Forest, 116-112, in 2OTs. St. Joe's 115 points tied for 23rd all-time in any tournament game. The record is 156 by

Josiah Ball of Maconaquah scored 38 points in his final game and finished his career with 2,138, tying for 44th all-time. Chase Konieczny of St. Joe scored 25 and increased his total to 2,118, 50th all-time. By moving into the Top 50, they knocked Steve Alford off the list.

South Bend St. Joseph set a semistate record with its 115-81 victory over Maconaquah today. The 196 points both teams scored was the second highest-scoring semistate game of all time, topped only by Lafayette Jeff's 104-99 overtime win over Plainfield in 1996. HIGHEST SCORE, ONE

South Bend St. Joseph's 199 points today was a record for a 2-game semistate. Looking for 200-plus points in any brace of consecutive tournament games, I found 41, but I found only 3 in a regional round or later. In 1992, Lafayette Jeff beat Benton Central 97-58 and Twin Lakes

Gavin Betten of Manchester has 2,115 career points, 5 shy of joining Indiana's all-time Top 50 scorers. Should he make it in Saturday's 2A state final, he would join three others who played this season — Braylon Mullins of Greenfield-Central, Josiah Ball of Maconaquah, and Chase

South Bend St. Joseph first played in the tournament in 1954. It won its first sectional in 1960 and now has won 15 sectionals, 7 regionals, and 4 semistates. For about a dozen years prior to '54, there were two Catholic schools in South Bend — Catholic and Central Catholic.

Gavin Betten of Manchester scored 21 points in today's 2A final and finished his career with 2,136 points, currently 48th on the all-time state list (right between Kyle Macy and Shawn Kemp). He will likely be passed tonight by St. Joseph's Chase Konieczny, who stands 50th with

Thanks (again) to Ron E. Miller of the Western Indiana Officials Association, I have updated my list of boys' basketball tournament officials. Please send along any corrections I need, or additions of first names of guys who officiated 100 years ago. johnharrell.net/refs/refs.htm

Lawrence North, Pike, Ben Davis, and North Central remained the Top 4 teams in my all-time ratings, covering the last 40 years. Fishers jumped from 15th to 10th, one spot behind Jeffersonville. indianahsbasketball.homestead.com/pastbb/alltime…

Alex Ovechkin tied Wayne Gretzky's NHL record of 894 career goals, and he did it in one fewer game than the Great One. Even more amazing, he moved within 1,239 assists and 1,239 points of Gretzky in those categories.

Maybe Pope Leo XIV will come back to Chicago and bring the Cardinals with him. We'd then have the Chicago Cardinals again (I old enough to remember the Chicago Cardinals playing in Comiskey Park).

I apologize. Here are the correct biggest tourney upsets throughout the years and, as expected, most of them came in sectional play: BOYS: johnharrell.net/pastbb/upsets.… GIRLS: indianagirlsbasketball.homestead.com/pastgb/upsets.…
