Instead of taking the fuel payments away the government should cut the huge losses and subsidies to the Bank of England. It should set about reversing the £20 bn productivity black hole in public services.

The government seems to have ditched plans to grow the economy. It is cutting pensioner living standards, accelerating the closure of the oil, gas and petrol car industries and pushing up energy prices.

If the government succeeds in getting more pensioners onto Pensioner Credit it could end up spending more overall. It would still leave millions of lower income pensioners worse off and struggling with high fuel bills.

Instead of talking about the NHS being broken we need to hear from the government how it is going to make it better and help the staff deliver great service.

What are the government’s plans for steel making in the U.K.? Why is it facilitating early closures of the remaining blast furnaces?

John Redwood (@johnredwood) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Will the government give more fish quota to the U.K. onshore fishing boats and ban the ultra large foreign trawlers to protect fish stocks?

John Redwood (@johnredwood) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The government gives £500 m to Port Talbot Steel, 2800 lose their jobs and it ends new steel making. That’s the same bad deal Labour rightly criticised when in Opposition.

I agree with the GMB Union it is wrong to close down industry and oil and gas in the U.K., only to import instead. That means less jobs and tax in the U.K., more CO 2 in the world.

John Redwood (@johnredwood) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The government should lead efforts to keep the Grangemouth refinery open. The U.K. is losing too many industrial plants and jobs. Importing instead increases world CO 2 and does big damage to our economy.

A policy of pricing the U.K. out of making things and supplying energy will not save the world but it will lose us many well paid jobs and tax revenue we need.

Glad to see the OBR now admits there is a substantial public sector cost to inviting in low paid employees from abroad. They still need to do more work on housing costs. Cheap labour for the employer is dear labour for taxpayers.

The Liberal Democrats in Wokingham have just wasted more than £5 million on unpopular remodelling of a good road junction. They undermined local shops and garage with the road closures. Why do they so dislike businesses and drivers?

John Redwood (@johnredwood) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Lib Dem Wokingham Council wastes our money on consulting us, only to ignore the results. They want fewer cars on the roads then grant planning permissions for many more homes which will come with more families with cars.

John Redwood (@johnredwood) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Wokingham Lib Dem pale yellow brick pavements are already looking dirty. Residents said no to this wasteful self indulgent scheme.

If you do not like some of the words of our traditional great songs then do not watch Last Night of the Proms. Just let others enjoy it. It’s entertainment, not a political statement.

Government should not try to tell football clubs how to run their finances. The dreadful state of HS 2 and Post Office nationalised industry finances are not good examples.

One of the dangers of government as financial regulator is taxpayers can be dragged into paying bail outs and compensation when they get it wrong.
