An amazing first day on site! Surreal and proud to be at this point after so long. The first ever archaeological excavation of a historic Romany site in Britain!!

With the dig we’re looking for the remains of a compound Romany people were forced to live in from the 1920s to 1960s But the overall goal is to: 1. Teach Romany people archaeological skills 2. Make a statement that our history is worth as much as any other

Reflecting on this at the start of day two. So so wild to me that this is happening. If my grandad could see 🥹🥹

In Britain, Romany people use the term Gypsy as a source of pride, myself included, so I haven’t stopped using it. You’re welcome !!
