My writing process: 40% being lost in my chaotic notes 30% worldbuilding useless details 20% staring at the screen 10% actually writing This is completely sustainable and I'm doing great

Finished Heart of Darkness and what a harrowing experience it was. Youโ€™re forced to reckon with the horrors of colonialism from the perspective of someone whoโ€”although horrified by itโ€”still retains the racist mindset. Not for the faint of heart.

The use of AI in art could only thrive in todayโ€™s world. We let artistic quality sink so low and the importance of the arts wane from a societal pedestal to something trivial. Of course AI art proliferates. Modern art is nearly indistinguishable from it.

The end of technological progress is the end of humanity. To deny ourselves new technology is to deny ourselves cures for diseases, ways to make life easier and better. Everything is technology. Even art. A brush, a film camera, a typewriter, all of this is technology.

The best books I read in 2025. Overall, it was a pretty good year, with 42 books read, and a growing number of them non-fiction. Not the highest number, but pretty good overall.

This seems like a self-inflicted problem. Read better books? Itโ€™s absurd to think all modern books are the same. There are thousands upon thousands coming out constantly. Try something different instead of just reading whatโ€™s popular.

Winds of Winter is not coming out. There is no update from George R. R. Martin that will convince me otherwise. Heโ€™s just faking progress to hype the next new project in the universe. Like always.

This is why I havenโ€™t abandoned this dreaded platform yet. Amidst all the madness you still find things that make the doomscrolling worth it.

Substack is just super easy to use. Built-in audience. Content focused. Intimately connected with social media. And long form writing is actually valued. Its simply a better blogging platform in age where you need social media for a blog to work.

A lot of people seem confused why Brandon Sanderson has been picky about whoโ€™s going to adapt his book series. But itโ€™s simple marketing. Bad adaptations hurt the brand. If he was old or dead it wouldnโ€™t matter. But heโ€™s still pumping out books for both Mistborn and Stormlight.

If you disagree with what sheโ€™s saying youโ€™re a fascist. Iโ€™m sorry, thatโ€™s just how it is. Thereโ€™s no other reason to defend the Legion in Fallout.

Why does magic in fantasy always have to be mysterious and unknown? I do actually prefer when it is mysterious, but thereโ€™s nothing wrong with a clear, hard magic system. It opens completely new possibilities.

Itโ€™s absurd to say that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is good because it doesnโ€™t push politics down your throat. Itโ€™s one of the most political shows right now, showing what makes a person and a leader good: kindness, empathy and understanding. The opposite of MAGA.

I think Iโ€™ve developed a superpower to sniff AI written content. Itโ€™s hard to explain, itโ€™s just a feeling, but itโ€™s usually right. Now Iโ€™m dreading the day Iโ€™m reading a book and I realise itโ€™s AI. Hasnโ€™t happened yet but it will be a terrible day.

Thatโ€™s why Iโ€™m writing a fantasy book that is half romantasy half power fantasy, seen from both the male and female perspective. One book to please them all.
