We solicited experts’ opinions on relative conservation value (CV) of different land classes detailed in the Irish National Land Cover Map. With this info, we can estimate national distribution of CV. Also with Open Access R code. Perfect? No. But hopefully useful! HT S Ruas

Recent meeting and visit of UCD collaborators in Multi4More to our #multi4more field site. We’re testing the relative effects of plant diversity and nitrogen fertiliser application on yield. One harvest remaining for first full year of data! 😁

Everyone does realise, right, that the insane extreme weather we’re seeing now will worsen until we eliminate fossil fuel emissions—which are *still* rising. And once we get there, it won’t get better. That’ll be our new normal. The time to act is now!

There are an estimated 16,000 insects in Ire. Only 1 enjoys any kind of legal protection while I was only able to find one project that is focused on an insect. Will never not be weird how little pick up the stories on record-breaking temperatures now get. We've just totally normalised one of the most abnormal things to happen in the history of human civilisation. businessgreen.com/news/4355692/t…

If you're teaching writing (or a writing-intensive course) and having students use generative AI (LLMs), I'd love to hear what you're doing. Looking for more ways folks are using LLMs to BUILD student writing skills rather than SUBSTITUTING for them. Thanks!

Delighted to meet and chat with Pádraic Fogarty about the Great Yellow Bumblebee on Mullet Peninsula. With the continued decline in this rare bumblebee numbers, the importance of getting more protection and funding for working with this species cannot be underestimated.
