At the side of a rural road near the coast in Brittany we came across the most unique vending machine I have ever seen: 12 oysters for 8 Euros, 9 for 6; a single lemon for 1 Euro, cooked lobster pieces, mackerel... wonderful stuff.

1. How often do we have to say this: (i) exclusions perpetuate inequality (ii) don't quote Tom Bennet for an informed perspective (Carmen Aguilar García - great data but there are better people to talk to). tinyurl.com/bdh7t34w🧵1/5

Now it's the weekend, I’d like flag something I’ve had the privilege to work on with Julia Waters, Ruth Perry’s sister, over the last few months. For over a year, we tried to get the Conservative government to ‘do the right thing’ and reform Ofsted, for over a year they refused…

I seem to remember lots of people telling me that summary judgments couldn't easily be scrapped because it would mean a change in legislation...

A HUGE step in the right direction with regard to Ofsted but I whole heartedly believe this is down to Edmund Barnett-Ward and Julia for the persistent work done. The profession will never be able to thank them enough as one is for sure - this would not have happened without them

Last week I was involved in a spat with Andrew Smith over naming schools who had low EHCP numbers Looks like Department for Education are on my side, as ‘Inclusion’ becomes a key ‘criterion’ for new Ofsted report cards This is great news for most schools schoolsweek.co.uk/inclusion-a-ke…

In the past I’ve been accused by some of being too ’hard’ on Ofsted. Reading this today, I’m pretty much speechless. What utterly disgraceful behaviour. Those responsible for trying to hide such a terrible tragedy deserve zero respect. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

With all school inspections now taking place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, there must be fewer inspections, more inspectors or part time inspectors (school leaders) conducting more inspections. It would be good to know how this will work.

Good luck to all the children, teachers, parents, embarking on a New School Year this week. Every season has its joys but the first week of September, laced with hope and excitement, makes this one of the very best of times. Enjoy! And here's a thought from John O'Donohue.

John Cosgrove Breaches of the Civil Service Code of Conduct and the Solicitors Regulatory Agency Principles, combined with a failure to follow its own guidelines, all in a days work for the TRA and its associated legal firms. Undue stress, anxiety and legal fees for the teacher.

A plug here for this week's Frank and Stan Chat. Just by chance, we have a former Senior Officer at the DfE who was responsible for overseeing Fwk development and relationship with Ofsted as our guest. We might get a perspective on how things have changed.

Those of us involved in thealternativebiglisten.co.uk are meeting this morning to consider our response to Ofsted's Big Listen and the Dame Christine Gilbert Report (snuck away in the Annexe). We intend to respond but want to do it in a measured and considered way.
