Business idea:make a tv streaming service with subscription and no adverts.Avoid having ads by not wasting money on terrible programs and films. You know the ones, where you think spending all the money on a high profile actor compensates for terrible script/director etc #netflix
During the itv dramatisation of the post office scandal, several times Tony Jones collects pint glasses with several inches of beer still in them and declares he’s getting another round. Did no one on the crew say “why don’t we use empty glasses”. #scandal
December’s #book club#book was Trust by Hernan Diaz. A book in 4 sections, I liked 1&3. Unusual, but not sure the “clever” bits made for a good read. Different, but not sure I’d recommend it, interesting well written bits and then a bit of a let down. Don’t remember any pets in it
Novembers #book club#book was Demon Copperhead. A retelling of David Copperfield with Dickensianesque social commentary (opioids). A cartoon drawing melungeon orphan, growing up in trailer park US, lots of dark comedy and resilience. An even darker last quarter. Some dogs in it.
October’s #book club#book was A Gentleman in Moscow. I really enjoyed the story of the Count whose life is spent under house arrest in The Metropol hotel during post revolutionary Russia. Entertaining and interesting, I loved the Count and the ending was very satisfying. Read it.
September’s #book club#book was The Searcher. A western set in Ireland. A missing brother from a small village. It’s not straightforward. There’s a puppy in it. A bit clunky in parts but an enjoyable read. Is it a happy ending? Debate it down the pub.
Augusts #book club#book was The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende. An epic story based in South America with some fantastical elements. Dark and funny. Based in part on the author’s own family’s experience of a coup. I wanted to like it more than I did.
Julys #book club#book was Childhood’s End. I’m not sure it makes a good story, it’s got interesting ideas but does that compensate for poorly written and at times ridiculous interactions? I’d say not, just write a textbook and don’t pretend to know how people talk to eachother.
June’s #book club#book was A Town Called Solace. A story about love, loss and regret. Physically lost children and emotionally lost adults. Lots to like in it and would recommend but not 5⭐️ for me. There’s icecream and a cat in it.
