Absolutely disgusting that any tenant ever has to be out of pocket for repairs or renewals. Negligent landlord that only just discovered that was happening. You'll just reimburse them? What about compensating them for the suffering you have caused them?

Some of the crueler benefits policies of our time. Also interacts with other aspects of welfare state - often single parents (usually mums) sent far away from London by councils under homeless duties are benefit capped so can’t afford PRS accom in London. #Benefits #Housing

I am heartbroken. On Thursday eve, Spike was enthusiastically giving me advice in a legal aid lawyer whatsapp group about one of my cases. Whenever any junior barrister had a query, he was the first person to respond. Sending my love to Spike's family & everyone HammersmithLawCentre ❤️

Back from duty solicitor session today. Tried to do things the way Simon did things which was invariably the best way to approach life in court, and life in general.

I was delighted to act as junior counsel for the Council in this successful, and my first, Court of Appeal case. It concerned enforcement of housing conditions under Housing Act 2004. Court agreed with us that Council’s enforcement policy did not fetter discretion. #PublicLaw

Excl: A woman had her housing benefit unlawfully cut by a council - which then tried to evict her when she couldn’t afford rent. A DWP algorithm had wrongly flagged her as a fraud risk, lawyers say. A tale about our "dehumanising" benefit system 👇 independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-n…

Alex Croft reports for the Independent on a case I was involved in. Instructed by Lawstop, we successfully challenged decision to terminate our client's housing benefit. We suspected she'd been targeted by an algorithm. Council conceded decision was made in "official error".
