We just received our Postal Ballot. Wondered out loud about how many General Elections we might have left in us? Wife was not ‘best pleased’ as she doesn’t approve of talk like that. Might be my last General Election :-)

Abandoned car in Balgay. Very much looks like a towing away job. Would be good if it is all cleared away before school holidays begin at lunchtime tomorrow. #evertheoptimist

Humming tune to ‘La Marseillaise’ while wandering down to gym this morning. #Paris2024 certainly grabbing my attention :-) #rousinganthem #dailyexercise

Remember taking an Upper Primary Badminton Club in the old St. Columba’s school. It was a relatively low roofed gym hall so the pupils had to develop special skills. Great game for the children as they soon can play rallies.#grassroots #Paris2024

Walking through Victoria Park after ‘back to school’ haircut. Used to be children on slope waiting to get free court, pitch and putt and putting busy. The pitch and putt and putting gone. Tennis courts have been resurfaced but nobody playing. That’s progress for you :-(

Watching Olympic Diving. Perhaps I’m suffering from Olympic fatigue but one dive looks pretty much the same as all the others. #untrainedeye #Paris2024

Finished reading this Alexander McCall Smith novel this afternoon. Pleasant way to spend a couple of hours now that #PARIS2024 is finished. #inspectorvarg

Great read. Just a snapshot of mid sixties Britain. Labour form a government, Churchill dies, capital punishment abolished, Beatlemania is rampant and a fifty year old Stanley Matthews plays his last professional game of football. Fascinating stuff.

End of an era. Earlier this morning lawnmower finally gave up the ghost. Has been coming for a while. Just wish I’d been able to finish cutting grass in back garden. Suppose I could make long grass short grass a design feature.#tenementladdie

Enjoyable read leaving me with plenty material for ‘playlists’. It really is all about the money and sustaining the lifestyle. #recommend

Three weeks in and still unable to shake off this winter bug. Fairly racking up the points on Boots Advantage Card. #selfmedication

Frank Skinner recommended this book on #BetweenTheCovers. Seems like a straightforward family dispute about an inheritance. Then it all turns a bit darker. An uncomfortable read. Glad I read it though. Thanks for the recommendation Frank. #conflict #denial

First two reads of 2025 completed. ‘James’ a retelling of the Huckleberry Finn story through slave eyes. ‘The Trees’ a tale of retribution for the miscarriages of justice, lynchings, carried out on African Americans. Great start to my reading year.

Smashing read. Puts me in the mood to get the bike out of the garage and start cycling again. Obviously not this weekend with #Eowyn on the way. #fairweathercyclist

Adrift in the Pacific for over 100 days and surviving until they were picked up by a South Korean fishing boat. Nothing could prepare you for what Maurice and Maralyn had to go through. #goodread

An upsetting read. Growing up in 1950’s Scotland wasn’t a bundle of laughs for young Duncan. He just wasn’t able to break the cycle of violence, drink, sectarianism and misogyny. No happy ending in this novel.
