The Conservatives are in a perilous situation politically. The voters have stopped listening to them and they're not minded to forgive them any time soon. Dismissing the public's worry about crime and the collapsing trust in the justice system as "populism" is not wise.

The public are fed up of seeing judges making political statements or stretching the law to suit their worldview. It has to end. If judges want to be politicians they should step down. If not, they should be removed.

Hard agree. It’s not implausible that a debt crisis forces the Government into conducting emergency fiscal surgery that splits the Labour Party. They don’t have the luxury of returning to welfare / pensions reforms in fairer political winds. What happened to “insurgent Govt”?
