Man, maybe I'm just not seeing it, but feels shocking to me how few people are highlighting Harris's handling of Gaza, the Uncommitted Movement, etc in their election analysis. The profound disillusionment that came from her failure in that regard is being majorly underestimated.

There's a lot to say about the good work Gus has done at the Observer so far, but one thing I'm grateful for (personally and professionally) is how invested he has been in getting books coverage into the magazine, and taking chances on books beyond those getting all the shine.

This is a real bummer, and I hope De La reconsider how they're handling this. I also hope Marcus sells a shit-ton of books because of this (and doesn't get mired in ridiculous legal trouble).

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody. I hope you get to dress up and enjoy a meal with people you love, and then be like Isla and escape with a book for a few minutes.

If you're a bookseller interested in Niko Stratis' THE DAD ROCK THAT MADE ME A WOMAN (publishing next May), or if you know of one who would be, can you reach out? Working on a thing and want to make sure I'm finding the right folks. utpress.utexas.edu/9781477331484/…

Another day, another horrifying piece of evidence that our country sees no value in human life that has no home. Immediately thought back to Albert Burneko's beautifully clear-eyed piece in the wake of Jordan Neely's murder when I heard the news. defector.com/jordan-neely-j…

This dude having deeply flawed politics actually reinforces what has been so telling about the response—that this issue is so far beyond being a partisan one, that the conditions of desperation and fury that seem likely to have driven him to this are not far from any of us.

The "Year in Reading" feature at The Millions is, as ever, the best year-end coverage on the internet. Do yourself a favor and spend some time digging into these pieces: themillions.com/2024/12/a-year…
