My official consult recommendation was “get a damn courier, a raven, a Hogwarts owl or whatever the hell you need to get that lab back NOW” Tell me there’s a better job than toxicology!

One of my favorite CVC teaching points. These days (in the era of vasoactives and other historically “high risk” meds via peripheral IVs), pt’s requiring central access are generally sicker and at some risk of requiring other interventions. Spare the R IJ for those things!

Academic writing: 750 word manuscript submitted. *3300* words of editor/reviewer comments. 1500 words in response. So what begins as a three paragraph piece turns into a novella, ultimately, chiseled back down to 750, 3 months later.

Hey EM bound med students--check out an overview of GME at University of Vermont Emergency Medicine Our residents are everywhere in this video...wilderness med, mastering TEE, and generally just having a great time. Come see what we're all about! youtube.com/watch?v=hCZhdG…

Mind boggling. I spend 1-5 hrs per peer review assignment, for free, out of love and hopes folks will do the same…but floored at publishing costs and this insanity. How do we burn down the house??

DEET has phenomenal potential to prevent a lot of really bad mosquito and tick borne illnesses. Our family uses it routinely during Vermont summers. Check out a few other thoughts I had from the perspective of a toxicologist in this NYT article: nytimes.com/2024/08/27/wel…

Toxic alcohols! They’re one of the most interesting things to argue about in all of toxicology. Here’s the stance that I take on the osm gap—partnered with Skyler Lentz and happy to debate my friend and other UVM tox attending Jim Whitledge: annemergmed.com/article/S0196-…

SICKENING—Trump’s DHS just deported a surgeon from Brown University Medical School—who is here legally on an H1B visa that doesn’t expire until 2027, and has committed no crimes. Trained in the U.S. at Ohio State, University of Washington, and Yale as a **transplant surgeon**
