The BMWE, the third largest of the rail unions, has announced a tentative agreement with the national rail carriers. That leaves just two of the 13 rail unions (the biggest two, BLET and SMART) left to settle. Judging from Facebook comments, BMWE members aren’t happy about it.

DHL Teamsters in Rhode Island have been on strike since June 22. The company refuses to meet their demands for quality, affordable healthcare. On Friday, police attacked the picket line, pepper-spraying crowds that included the elderly and disabled. Absolutely shameful!

UPDATE: The nation's largest railroads have started to snarl the supply chain over a refusal to give workers sick leave. Rail unions called this "corporate terrorism." The railroad companies want workers to accept a contract with ZERO sick days.

Despite a mandated cooling off period, it appears rail carriers continue to engage in illegal concerted action. Freight railroad are stopping shipments in order to pressure congress into acting as the end of the cooling off period approaches Friday.

Rail carriers are forcing fewer workers to do more, faster. The result is unsafe working conditions which increase derailments and put communities at risk.
