More than 3,000 RR workers took part in a recent RWU Survey. Their thoughts on the PEB? - No way! On striking? Exercise that right. Overwhelming across all unions and crafts, age groups and seniority.conta.cc/3TFmKWj

I wrote an update in Labor Notes about how the negotiations covering 115k rail workers are going (slowly) and how workers feel about them (pissed off) - courtesy of the survey put out by Railroad Workers United ✊

I keep hearing this from railroad workers, and it's wild - these are NOT jobs that people quit! Everyone I talk to says they've never seen anything like it before.

The BMWE, the third largest of the rail unions, has announced a tentative agreement with the national rail carriers. That leaves just two of the 13 rail unions (the biggest two, BLET and SMART) left to settle. Judging from Facebook comments, BMWE members aren’t happy about it.

1/8 I want to share a few stories from this year that will call attention to the irreversible havoc rail carriers have placed on their employees, customers, and the nation. #railstrike

DHL Teamsters in Rhode Island have been on strike since June 22. The company refuses to meet their demands for quality, affordable healthcare. On Friday, police attacked the picket line, pepper-spraying crowds that included the elderly and disabled. Absolutely shameful!

UPDATE: The nation's largest railroads have started to snarl the supply chain over a refusal to give workers sick leave. Rail unions called this "corporate terrorism." The railroad companies want workers to accept a contract with ZERO sick days.

Despite a mandated cooling off period, it appears rail carriers continue to engage in illegal concerted action. Freight railroad are stopping shipments in order to pressure congress into acting as the end of the cooling off period approaches Friday.

Steven Greenhouse Railroad Workers United ✊ Sick days? We don’t even get weekends. I worked with a new hire who won’t get a paid scheduled day off until next year. Rail carriers are forcing fewer workers to do more, faster. The result is unsafe working conditions which increase derailments and put communities at risk.

Automation is a significant threat to longshore workers globally, as port employers around the world have sought to bring in technology that would reduce their reliance on human labor—and undermine the strength of unions, joe dh wrote: labornotes.org/2024/11/canadi…

Strikes are already underway in a year full of expiring contracts that could keep the strike wave rolling across the country. Support worker fights wherever you can. Fight the boss, build the union. From us alongside Labor Notes and joe dh
