Today’s story is about the COVID-19 outbreak that took place in Valley State Prison this past winter. The author discusses systemic overcrowding issues, inability to follow covid safety protocols, and CDCR staff being neglectful and menacing towards incarcerated individuals.

11,000 people were released from federal prison during the pandemic and put on home confinement. 17 reoffended. That's a 0.15 percent recidivism rate. No typo. Now guess: How many of these folks didn't need to be in prison so long in the first place?
