🧵 A big week for Gaelic and Scots in Parliament Tomorrow Education, Children and Young People Committee will start Stage 2 of the Scottish Languages Bill. There are 97 amendments to consider. I've lodged 46 of them. If we don't protect Scotland's indigenous languages, who else will? Here's what I'm proposing: 1/9

Would be an improvement, but curriculum designed for teaching #Gaelic as a minority language alongside its culture needed, rather than translation of English resources. Too many GME pupils don't know why they're in GME & are not inspired or able 2 use G socially outside school.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Delighted that the Scottish Languages Bill was just passed by Scottish Parliament. It means more support for Gaelic and Scots, the chance for parents to ask for Gaelic schools in their area, and a big step in keeping our national languages alive and growing.

The unanimity speaks volumes. The Bill recognises Scots as an official language in Scotland and lays foundation for a long-term language strategy. Well done Scottish Government, Scottish Parliament and all the generations of activists and stakeholders on both #Gaidhlig and #ScotsLanguage sides! 🙌💪
