Little surprised by the postgame quotes about JMU football’s second half being closer to the program’s standard. The Dukes outscored Gardner-Webb 13-3 after halftime, but only scored one TD and allowed two drives of 10+ plays and 60+ yards. Second half wasn’t exactly elite.

JMU football has the third-highest pass blocking grade in the FBS through two weeks, per Pro Football Focus. But the Dukes rank 103rd nationally in passing yards per game (107). Dukes missed some WIDE open opportunities (bad throw, drop, tipped pass, etc.) yesterday.

JMU football's four second-half offensive drives yesterday: - TD - FG - FG - End of game Offense played better late, but Gardner-Webb possessed the ball for 14+ minutes(!!!) across its final two drives. Dukes couldn't get off the field on defense.

JMU ranked third in the nation per PFF in pass blocking grade at 89 and ranked 35th in run blocking grade at 68.7. That offensive line production was led by Jesse Ramil who had the best PFF grade of all JMU players in Week 2 against Gardner-Webb.

Interesting way to look at the game. Gardner-Webb after Week 2 is 174 in SP+ and Charlotte is just 13 spots better at 161. Similar teams in SP+
