Help a new department chair out! One of our wonderful visiting faculty got a TT offer late in the game (now). This is great for him! But a real pickle for me. I need to find someone to cover his courses this fall 🚨 Do you know anyone who could do this? Details below. (1/3)

I used to think I was rational. Then I read Daniel Kahneman's Nobel Prize-winning work on human decision-making. He routinely asks 8 questions to expose cognitive traps you fall into daily. Test yourself with these questions (it's the ultimate BS detector for your brain):

Our dean's office just discovered 125 copies of The Votage Effect that we had misplaced last year, which we will be giving out as prizes this year to lucky experimental economics students! John A. List

Need a way to remember which statistical error is type 1 and which is type 2? Here’s the trick that finally helped me: In “the boy who cried wolf” the townspeople make type 1 and type 2 errors, in that order. First they think there’s a wolf when there isn’t one (false

Every time I see these data I take it as a reminder that we really need to look after our students. And I hope you don't mind if I share that reminder with you, too. #TeachEcon

This year's Econ job market has, by all accounts, been brutal. If you're still not sure what you're doing next year, applying for external funding to continue your work is a great way to buy yourself time & options. It's a way to "build your own post-doc." Check out AV's open

Pop quiz: what couldn't YOU do without high-speed internet access? Last summer, UMass Resource Economics Christian Rojas told #UMass about the digital divide - and it turns out that there's plenty we'd miss if it weren't for wifi. youtube.com/watch?v=U-Htlh… #digitaldivide #umassamherst

Dudes Posting Their W’s This is my little boulder, but the builders uncovered one on my neighbors lot the size of a Volkswagen Beetle. They sell for big bucks as yard decor. I paid a guy $20 & a 6 pk of Shinerbock to move it to my front yard!

Being an academic can be great, but also tough. You experience tons of rejection. Everyone is constantly telling you what you're doing wrong. Teaching is tiring. Days drag by with seemingly little progress. Working in isolation can be lonely. So, I think its useful

Standing offer: going on the academic job market this year? I'd be happy to tweet about your research. Candidates: DM me with a link to your work.
