It was great to attend this event at #salfordquays this afternoon and meet council officials and other agencies who are all working hard to get out the message that cold water swimming can be incredibly dangerous. Also talking about safety on public transport.

Councillor Paul Heilbron and I met the fire brigade this afternoon to talk about the important issue of water safety at #salfordquays. Paul got to try out the throw lines, which are amazingly effective and much easier to use than you'd imagine.

It is seemingly radical not to want kids to starve and freeze

Labour will of course remove the cap in due course, but will it now take longer so as to not give these rebels the high ground? Politics on both sides of this argument in Labour is at risk of getting in the way of good outcomes for kids in poorer families.

I'm completely in favour of allowing assisted dying. It feels like the UK is a long way behind the curve on this and making people go to Dignitas, and potentially prosecuting those who assist is light years away from where a compassionate society should be.

In a world which has seen some dark times recently, it was a real joy today to be part of a vibrant, colourful, happy celebration, by a community that has known plenty of dark times itself, but which I'm proud to be a part of.
