It took me SEVEN years to figure out that you can save a ggplot as a vectorized .svg file ggsave("file.svg"). The svg file can be opened on powerpoint and it will be completely vectorized, even text are still recognized as text boxes! No more recreating plots on illustrator!!!!!

Have you ever used the {rio} #rstats package? Inspired by this, we have added a universal read_file() and write_file() function to TidierFiles that infers the filetype and calls the appropriate backend, bringing a consistent interface to tabular data. tidierorg.github.io/TidierFiles.jl…

Can Mendelian randomization be reclaimed from the deluge of papers and misleading findings? asks editorial by @stefanstender Helene Gellert-Kristensen lipidworld.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11… In "Lipids in Health & Disease", which gets 60+ MR submissions a month. How should journals respond?

HELP! For years, I have been depositing all data & code on the Center for Open Science , incl. a permanent DOI as soon the bulk of the work makes it into a preprint, agnostic to final publication venue. It turns out that the Science family of journals do not allow this BUT 1/9

Sometimes I wonder if we prefer focusing on STEM recruitment rather than retention because recruitment lets us talk about how exciting and impactful our field is, whereas retention requires us to look at our own culpability in creating environments where people don’t thrive.

Utterly obsessed with this UCL researcher who won an Ig Nobel for showing that “Blue Zones” where people supposedly live well past 100 at unusual rates are actually just full of clerical errors and people committing pension fraud ucl.ac.uk/ioe/news/2024/…

One un-questioned research practice (UQRP) that does as much harm as QRPs: Ignoring sampling bias & selection effects. Nice paper showing a way to be transparent & analytical about the problem: "Graphical Causal Models for Survey Inference" doi.org/10.1177/004912…

Two takes on the same paper. Different messages (one sounds a lot more positive than the other) but both are technically correct summaries.
