White supremacists that want Africans etc to leave Europe and USA gloss over the actual solution. Migration will continue as long as economic conditions favour white countries over others. We can start with the simple issue of paying reparations for slavery and colonialism.

White countries are interesting. Black people die everyday in the Mediterranean trying to get to Europe. Brown people are dying in Gaza everyday. Europe and the US move on with their lives like those dying are not humans. Whatever the legalities, human lives should be valued.

Why should Europe care about Africans dying in the Mediterranean? Well, Europe largely created the economic disparities that make migration necessary. Secondly, the Mediterranean is largely their territory. At the very basic level, get people out of the water and deport them.

Why should Europeans care about dying Gazans? Well, because they too are human. Humanity is as simple as that. Degradation of humanity anywhere is degradation of humanity everywhere. Europeans and Americans have the power to reduce the dying. This is despite the politics.

I wonder why they repair all roads leading to a specific junction at the same time! Why not complete one part before starting on another? Practically all roads leading to Makerere are in different stages of closure without any real viable alternatives! Ki Uganda kinyuma!

Yesterday, HRAPF met with the Chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) to discuss our reports on violations against sexual minorities in Uganda and there was clear agreement that all persons deserve equal protection under the law and that the UHRC has the duty to protect everyone.

What are national values? Must they by their very nature be good things? Who determines what is good? The recent public celebration of the release of suspected corrupt MPs seems to suggest that our new national value is corruption. Corruption is painted as a good and so, a value?

Another emerging national value is hate of gay people (homophobia). We even legislated the hate into law. Isn’t that then a national value? 95% or so say no to homosexuality and many of those wouldn’t want gay people as their neighbours. Isn’t this accepting hate as a value?
