Here’s another fun one from a few days ago. Est. size is 2.02 in and the entire loop is only 0.076 sec long. We can also find velocity: this stone was coming down at 66 mph and traveling horizontally at 23 mph! This system is providing an unprecedented look at hail!

The fact that both of these can be falling in the same volume mere inches apart and look this wildly different means we have a lot to learn about hail. From the supercell-icane storm today in TX near Guthrie.

Monday was certainly an adventure. There wasn't much for tornadic storms in SW MN & NW IA. There were a few tornadoes that day, mostly in Wisconsin. We would have been in the right locations had the environmental conditions been favorable for supercell in-out flow balance. #mnwx

This Sunday, we collected a close range dataset of multiple tornadoes near Arnett, OK in University of Oklahoma RaXPol. Despite scrambling to find a position, we captured the debris cloud, a debris ejection associated with intense RFD, and surface-layer vorticity worms in the inflow and RFD.

Have humility before the atmosphere and be ready for life-long learning. You understand far less about storms than you think you do. I'm considered expert. 40th year actively storm observing & in professional meteorology, I still see new things. Learn from others & the sky.

So for what might be the first time, the Hail Camera captured a stone to stone interaction where a larger stone overtakes a smaller stone, and the resulting impact sheds a torrent of water that balloons upwards which wouldn’t have happened without the collision.

Thin-slicing hailstones allows us to take a look on the inside at the structure. One example is this stone with concentric rings of large and small crystals resulting from alternating wet/dry growth. 📸 Thomas Nordstrand

The best 360 Insta360 reframe Timelapse known to man. Captures the full lifecycle of the Wallace/Wallfleet Nebraska tornado. 77 minutes of mind blowing footage condensed down to 1 minute. Streamed LIVE on the RadarOmega app.

This is why anticipating deviant tornado motion is so important. Tornado moved nearly 180 degrees opposite initial storm motion and tornado warning estimate

🧵 2023-2025 have offered several "TOTY"-tier photogenic tornado + supercell combos What do the environments of these storms have in common?

TEXAS FLOOD: A Meteorologist’s Perspective on the Camp Mystic Tragedy. The flash flooding along the Guadalupe River has claimed over 80 lives, including many children at Camp Mystic. As a meteorologist, I want to share perspective on the atmospheric & communication factors
