I think Carney is benefiting from a honeymoon similar to what Trudeau experienced in the aftermath of his first election in 2015. High approval numbers, positive media coverage, and an American liberal press willing to cast him as a heroic anti-Trump “resistance” type figure.

If Pierre quits, and the party insists on having a bilingual leader replace him, then I think it’s almost guaranteed the next Conservative leader will be less conservative and less exciting to the base than him. Will that hurt them electorally? I don’t know but that’s the trade.

Okay here’s my official prediction of how things will go: The Edmonton Oilers will win the Stanley Cup, or at least come very close. The Canadian media will frame it as this very patriotic, Canada versus America thing, and a moment in which Canadians of all parts of the country

Canadians should be suspicious of the rhetoric of war in non-war contexts. The “moral equivalent of war” is a conceptual effort to justify war-like government mobilization and intervention in response to economic or social issues. Trump’s tariffs are damaging and dumb. But

I have no clue how wasteful AI actually is or isn’t. We live in a moment where there’s clearly no pushback against those who make even the wildest claims about it, like that every prompt uses a billion gallons of water or whatever. Someone should write a myth vs facts piece.

I think there are two “lost media” type mysteries I find legitimately interesting (and I once watched a four-hour lost media iceberg video). The first is that Jerry Lewis holocaust movie, and the second is the circumstances around the “Chris Houlihan room” in Zelda 3.

Predictably, the Assembly of First Nations opposes PM Carney’s “fast track” agenda. But even if they supported it, other groups would still sue and oppose, and complain about insufficient “consultation.” So I’m very skeptical he’ll pull this off.
