The great Joe Ely that I captured with this shot in 1992 in Newport at the Kings Hotel. Joe had just done a set with his band and then just carried on doing a solo set. A magic night from the Texan legend...

Fitted a new cover on the polytunnel a nightmare job in the wind. Had to be done, tomatoes jumping out of their pots begging to be transplanted. Still early yet with temperatures dropping keeping a fleece handy is vital in case of frost.

Mass production on the sowing side. Sweet Corn, Runner Beans, in pots for later planting out. This way you know what you’ve got unlike the lottery of planting directly into the soil with the possibly of mice and late frosts..

Just erected a walk in Brassica cage. I can now dig in it standing up. No more attacks from pigeons & the cabbage white butterfly.

Despite the drought & scorching conditions Celeriac & Sweetcorn doing well. Constant watering essential for Celeriac to produce successfully.

Fingers crossed for a good Spud fest. Foliage looks healthy but yet to die back on this main crop of King Edwards & Maris Piper’s. Should be harvestable in a couple of months barring the dreaded blight that hit us last year! A few Swedes under wraps in the foreground.

Celeriac going nicely. Started these way back in modules in February. A very slow grower but should be worth the wait. Runner beans have reached the top of the poles but slow to produce any pods worth picking yet. Drought conditions haven’t helped, you can’t beat rainwater.

Recorded at the 100 Club in 1975. The Stan Tracey Quartet play to a wildly appreciative audience. One of the great live sets from a legendary band..
