Markets must become competitive. The market is a process. This is the core (pun very much intended) idea underlying the shortcut of supply and demand. economicforces.xyz/p/markets-must…

On Friday, Eric Fruits, Ph.D., kristian stout and I filed comments on the FCC's copper retirement NPRM. We argued that the market for voice services is in the midst of "creative destruction" and the FCC should eliminate rules that slow down that transition

While the Ohio court did not reach the First Amendment arguments (because it didn't have to), they did find, much as we argued in our amicus brief, that Google was not a common carrier because it does not offer undifferentiated search product to the public. A short 🧵

Surprising that it took so long for the US to push back against regulations that are largely designed to weaken the competitive position of American firms (albeit in the name of fairness, contestability, transparency...). So where do jurisdictions like Europe go from here? 🧵

Great thread. One addition: some countries think ex-ante regulation buys leverage against tariffs. In reality, it’s the opposite—those rules are part of why tariffs are on the table in the first place.

Self-preferencing is a form of vertical integration. Brian Albrecht and Geoffrey Manne explain how regulators miss the point: self-preferencing in cloud services boosts efficiency, cuts costs, reduces latency, and expands choice for consumers. 🔗 below

The EU's proposed Space Act is a "DMA for Space." 🛰️ With arbitrary thresholds, conflicted regulators, and legal "poison pills," it's a nontariff barrier designed to block U.S. competitors, not ensure safety. Full Eric Fruits, Ph.D. Truth on the Market article ⬇️
