My flash fiction, "Reality Like an Onion," is today's story at 365tomorrows. For me, it's an epic. It mixes cosmology, physics, court room drama, and romance in 600 words. 365tomorrows.com/2022/07/13/rea… #amwriting #amwritingfiction

I don't only write 100-word stories. Some are longer, a few are shorter. Here's a 50-word story: fiftywordstories.com/2022/07/19/jim… #amwriting #amwritingfiction

Here's a link to all my stories on 50-Word Stories. I could easily have made these drabbles, or even longer, but they work as is. Tiny but complete. fiftywordstories.com/tag/jim-anders…

I write mostly micro-fiction these days -- stories under 500 words. My wheelhouse is the drabble, a story of exactly 100 words. This raises the question, why? What is the appeal of the form to me as a writer? #amwritingfiction #amwriting

Jim Anderson (@jimanderson) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The first appeal of micro-fiction is that I can write a story in one sitting. Or at least a draft. Turns out, revision is often needed, and it helps to set the draft aside for a few days. But I get a little thrill from completing a micro-story draft. #amwritingfiction #amwriting

Like many would-be novelists, I have a dozen orphaned first chapters. I even have a couple long novel fragments of 50K words. It's all worthless. You have to finish. Granted, a 100-word story isn't a novel. But it's better than an unfinished novel. #amwritingfiction #amwriting

Writing micro-fiction also allows you to try out genres and voices quickly, with minimal investment of time and effort. I've written drabbles in several genres: sci-fi, fantasy, horror, satire, farce, historical, literary. If nothing else, it's fun. #amwritingfiction #amwriting

Today I wrote 100-word story (a drabble), keeping alive a string I began on April 25th of this year. I also wrote 800 words of short story. The drabbles have jumped started my creativity. My goal is to write one every day for the rest of my life. #amwriting #amwritingfiction
