What a treat to get to see Brother Ali at MuslimFest today! He performed some of his best songs and made some new fans. He also popped out after to chat with the small group of heads that came, which I really appreciated. Hope he comes back to Canada soon (hint hint).
I’m still floating on the feeling of last night’s my father's name show. He and his band are a storm of energy and uplift, and the crowd ate it up. Such a fun show (all my videos have OG Homonculus singing in the background). Shoutout Melo Griffith for a killer opening set too.
I’m so glad I went to Daniel Caesar’s #SonofSpergy popup tonight. I definitely have notes on how it could’ve been improved (a stage maybe) but the music was lovely and the atmosphere was touching. So many kids being quiet and caring for one another, and no problems.
My October plans include MahMoud, Cautious Clay, Lee Fields, Monophonics, BLUEPRINT, Yin Yin, RINGGO, pachyman, jesse the Tree, Height Keech, NOSAj from New Kingdom, gogopenguin, Big 🐰, Alchemist Type Beat, sirius🌟, Sven Wunder, Ouri, & Little Simz. So busy!
Beyond happy with the Deltron3030 show tonight. I love that album and I’m thankful to see it live. Del The Funky Homosapien is not aging at all, and kid koala & Dan the A are incredible. Really fun night and I’m pleased to have introduced to kylerapps & veggieburgerr.
It’s been years since I last played the #Dynospectrum album, and it’s a trip to listen to young MASKMOSPHERE and the other MCs. Slug really stands out but everyone comes correct.
I think it’s funny that this is the first piece of mail I get post-Canada Post strike. Maisonneuve Magazine #canadapost
Shout out The Rap Music Plug Podcast for a really fun night, and for bringing together such a talented crew of rappers for the evening. Keep doing these - the city needs them! jesse the Tree NAHreally Height Keech KING KA$PER Travis John. Slumber Logic Big Brody Ode Marrow
I think Saul Williams is one of the great explainers of our time. His ability to connect dots is unparalleled, and he sounds so cool while doing it. I’m glad he and Carlos Niño (& Friends) collaborated on this and I can’t wait to hear the album they recorded too!
Some takeaways from the Big 🐰 & Alchemist Type Beat show: - We need a Sven Wunder headlining tour ASAP - sirius🌟 needs to be given more flowers - Ovrkast. can’t be praised enough - Al is a generational talent and a chameleon - Freddie is a riot - Shout out Insyt.!
Great set from YUNGMORPHEUS tonight. Great guy too. A Spyglass To One’s Face is a terrific album - I need to dig into dirty art club’s previous work.
My November plans include ashy daddy, #yuuf, Durand Jones & The Indications, Snotty Nose Rez Kids, Backwoodz Studioz, HUMAN ERROR CLUB, before we PANIC, The Altons & @theesinseers. Thinking about Codefendants (but would have to go to Hamilton) and Nick Mulvey. Sad to be missing (!).
I see a lot of performers who clearly love making music and performing it, but few match the enthusiasm and pure joy I’ve seen in ashy daddy every time I’ve seen him perform for almost fifteen years. Tonight was amazing.
I wish more rappers were as brave and outspoken as Bambu DePistola. This album and his last one are going to be seen as important historical documents one day, and also discussed as pure bangers!
