What followed was a fascinating conversation between biblical cousins about war, relationships & prospects for peace. After he explained to me the purpose of the prayer beads, we talked about or common forefather, Abraham.

He told me about his town where Jews and Arabs don’t just exist together, but they work together and help each other as neighbors. That is the norm in their town, and they don’t appreciate the media or social media trying to spin it otherwise.

He spoke about the fanatic Islamists who have, in his words, perverted the Quran by violently misinterpreting its teachings and the education system in Gaza that does not give young Muslim-Arabs a chance to grow up and accept peace and prosperity. It saddens him deeply.

We discussed the current situation, & how if we got rid of politics & fanaticism, the rest of us would not just co-exist, but thrive. He called me “brother” throughout our 30 minute conversation & expressed a common desire for the coming of the Messiah to show us all the light.

I asked him if most people he knows feels how he does. He said absolutely, yes. This is how he was raised by his parents and how he was taught. He plans to raise his children the same way.

My new friend recently completed studies to become an engineer. He’s driving a cab until the war ends & the economy changes so he could start applying for jobs in the real estate market.

As we reached my destination, we exchanged phone numbers. I told him to let me know when he is ready to pursue his career as I would love to help make some introductions.

Forget the ridiculous notion of apartheid; that nonsense has always just been propaganda. That deceptiveness is harmful not just to Jews, but to Arabs in Israel who for the most part just want to live in peace as Israeli citizens.

There is a world that can exist in Israel that includes both Muslims and Jews. The frustrating part is that world already exists. They don’t want a two-state solution. They don’t want Hamas or Islamic Jihad. They don’t want a relationship with Iran’s current leadership.

They want to live in Israel with their cousins who treat them equally and with respect. They want to see Hamas destroyed and the civilians that exist in Gaza and the West Bank educated properly.   It’s too bad our Ivy League students and idiot politicians think they know better.

Powerful thread from my guy Elliot Steinmetz. No matter how little you know/care about the conflict, I'd implore you to take a minute to read and gain a slightly deeper understanding. A better Middle East is possible, and we owe it to ourselves and the world to seek it out.

I debated internally whether to share this story. The hope was to spread positivity and avoid the typical negative responses. I’m uplifted and inspired by the response. There is good out there. There is positivity and hope. The right people need to be in the right places.

I get that there are politics and all sorts of agendas behind it, but for one day just be happy that a mother and father get to see their kid again. You can argue about the BS another time. This kid hasn’t seen his brother in almost two years.

Watch Edan’s reaction to how much taller his brother got from last he remembers. They robbed this kid of most of years 19-21 of his life. Edan quite literally missed seeing his kid brother grow up. Don’t ever forget that.

The strength of these two people none of us should ever have to know.
