It has been a great day to be scouting. Crops here are looking good and are about ready to be sprayed. And I could see the mountains for most of the day! #RockyMountains #MaddenAB

It is pretty neat to think that in only a month this field will be a thick mat of green surrounded by a sea of yellow. #stayawayhail

When taking tissue tests, it is important to make records of how the crop looked and what field conditions were like so you have a context when interpreting the results. For example, “the ducks were happy today” reminds you that it was a bit wet that day.

Harvest is already underway in parts of Central Alberta. I know the swaths may not be as big this year, but here is a clip of harvesting from last year to help us get into the #Harvest21 mood.

It has been a great summer for #sweetcorn in the garden! In May these were just seedlings from Patio Gardens in #Lacombe and now look at em! Looking forward to supper.

I’m proud of my youngest client today. He resisted the pressure to swath canola 2 weeks ago when others in his area were going. Instead he checked the field regularly and now we agree it’s ready to swath! He just made himself another $40-$60/ac this year just by being patient.

It’s still satisfying to see a 2-foot soil profile. #soilssampling21 is going well but there is definitely some hard subsoil out there.

It’s a chilly one this morning. The frost is an “encouragement” to push through this final stretch of #soilsampling21 before the weather really changes and the snow slows it way down.

It was a fast-paced sampling season this Fall, but I did get to see some great sights during it all. Here is a short clip I got of five moose one morning. I had never seen that many at once before.

Just scrolling through some pics and came across this from the Fall. A lot of farming clients have a field called “School” or Old School” or something like that. And they usually have the one-room schoolhouse still standing.

It’s always rewarding and exciting to see the heads come out on #wheat. I’m happy with the number of spikelets. The plant count was fairly high so I am curious how many spikelets will have 3-4 seed.

It’s been a good day so far for soil sampling, but I’m not enjoying these views right now. This is the third combine fire I’ve seen today near Crossfield.
