Our final stop was at Tyne Cot, the largest CWGC Cemetery in the world. Mrs Smith and Mr Parbery gave final reflections for the boys to carry home with them. Thank you Jude for laying a wreath on behalf of us all at JHGS.

The JHGS year 13 group to Berlin is recuperating at the hotel after an epic 4 hour walking tour of Berlin. Particular highlights were the Soviet War Memorial in Tiergarten and the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church.

JHGS had a thought-provoking day yesterday in Berlin. A sobering visit to Sachsenhausen concentration camp followed by a fascinating walk along the Berlin Wall.

JHGS have now landed at Heathrow (a bit later than expected)! It was great to finish the trip with the Berlin Underworld tour-travelling in a WWII bunker and also seeing an original tunnel dug under the Berlin Wall to help East Germans escape into West Berlin.

It's been a busy few days for the Year 9 Netherlands trip, with a poignant visit to the Anne Frank house and a tour of Amsterdam's main square on Saturday. We saw the Royal Palace of Amsterdam and the National Monument, home of Dutch remembrance of WWII.

Sunday started with a visit to the Kazemattenmuseum bunkers, the only place where the German Blitzkrieg of May 1940 was successfully halted. In Leeuwarden, the Friesian capital, we heard inspiring stories of Dutch Resistance at the Friesian Resistance Museum.

Monday started with a visit to the largest command bunker in the Netherlands. This Cold War bunker allowed 140 government officials to keep the country running in the event of nuclear attack. The back-up elecricity generator ran by bike. We would have been in good hands here...

It was a humbling experience for the year 9s to see Westerbork transit camp. The 102,000 stones laid at the memorial represent each of the Sinti, Jewish people and resistance fighters who passed through here on their way to concentration camps across Europe in the Holocaust.

Today we took a trip to see the Overloon War Museum, where a key part of Operation Market Garden, the Allied attempt to drive liberate the Netherlands in 1944, was fought. We are en route to Calais.
