My white privilege is that my daily life feels like business as usual. I can go to work without fear, I don't wonder if the person next to me might discriminate me, I don't think twice about leaving the house. This isn't so for many of my colleagues and friends right now in 🇬🇧

make no mistake, the constant push by governments, NGOs, the AI community & general public to focus on “opportunities”/“positive narratives” comes at the cost of uncritically endorsing hype & diminished focus on rigorous testing & supporting claims with empirical evidence

🎉📢 I'm on the tenure track job market! 👋✨ I study how people building “AI” think about the downstream harms their work makes possible, and the epistemic and political economic systems which shape their thoughts, and our future.
