NEW FROM CBO: brutal distributional analysis of House GOP "Big Beautiful Bill" On avg bottom 30% of households get poorer from the bill Avg gets little - worse off if u include tariffs Would be the largest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in a single law in history

This Senate proposal would still take food assistance from hundreds of thousands of Kentuckians, including kids, veterans, older adults, people with disabilities, refugees and Kentuckians with low wages already struggling to afford the rising costs of groceries.

SNAP helps feed over 225,000 children in Kentucky. It's not a budget line for them, it's breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Congress could punch a $286 million hole in Kentucky's annual SNAP funding, the equivalent of 107 million lost meals. We have to ask ourselves what matters here.

See that giant bar all the way to the left? That's how much rural Kentucky stands to lose under the proposed federal Medicaid cuts. We wouldn't just lose more than any other state, we'd lose around twice as much as any other state. kff.org/policy-watch/h…

Underappreciated aspect of Senate Republicans' unfunded mandate for SNAP: they're setting states up to fail. The amount is tied to a state's SNAP error rate. But the bill: -Cuts federal $ for strategies that reduce errors *in half* -Adds new & error-prone red tape requirements

Hey states - if you don't want to pitch in to pay for SNAP, you should either get really accurate with your SNAP benefit payments, or go hog wild. What a bizarre policy choice, just to win a vote.

Our own Dustin Pugel (Dustin Pugel 🇺🇦) was on KET Monday discussing the harms of cutting Medicaid in Kentucky. "These cuts are real and they're going to be felt by more than the folks who are going to lose their health insurance."
