My inpatient list fell apart today. Laparotomy pod 2 patient demanded to go home or they would leave ama.

I immediately discharged 3 others

A 4th patient needs to get out of bed and realize that surgery isn’t a pain-free experience

Another patient also demanded to go home today, but their troponin went from 0.34 to 14, so they obviously bought a stay in the cath lab....

On the bright side, I did get to say a few words to ama patient. Told them to stop being mean to the nurses and to calm down while I discharge them. Telling someone that their stay may not be covered by insurance if they leave ama goes a long way towards making people settle down
