In just 4 years (2018-2022), these 4 cyber schools grew their combined net assets from less than $1 million to $486 million.

$486 million.

Those are taxpayer dollars they are hoarding.

The 'both-sidesism' of this latest episode in Congress is a great example of how people of color--especially women--are supposed to just take it...

The correct test to apply here is to imagine the response that would follow if this flag was flying over Justice Sotomayor's home, and she blamed a family member:

Tell me how NJPP can’t get referenced in any article without being called “progressive” or “left leaning” …

But whenever a new Koch funded policy org pops up (often without any actual research staff) to launder conservative nonsense, they’re labeled non-partisan.

'Genius' is a word tossed around too much, but in this case, it applies: 'Bill Holman, Whose Arrangements Shaped West Coast Jazz, Dies at 96' nytimes.com/2024/05/10/art…

RIP to David Sanborn. I Used to run into him on occasion in the city in the 80s. While he did mostly pop stuff, he wasn't afraid to tangle with the best of them, including on his brief late night show: youtube.com/watch?v=wAEdeX… Good guy. Respectful & respectable. Dude could blow.

Disturbing example of how school vouchers are being used to undermine the entire civil rights architecture. Here's a publicly-funded school that not only doesn't accept LGBTQ students but promises to expel students with gay family members

This entire episode is shameful and completely opposite of what should be the spirit of interscholastic HS sports: 'Controversial N.J. charter school powerhouse abruptly pulls out of state athletic association' nj.com/highschoolspor…

This is an excellent point: There is no data about the extent of the 'problem' of people requesting data from their government. Acting without knowing basic facts about OPRA's impact is a sign of bad faith.

The bill is not meant to impair reporters' abilities to do their work? There's this provision: Requestors cannot send out “blast” record requests to more than one town or agency at a time. Countless important journalism projects have been done in this exact way...

Rutgers, unlike many universities around the country, treated their students with respect, dignity and found a peaceful way to de-escalate tensions on campus. They avoided police, they avoided violence and they upheld their duty as an institute of higher learning to protect free

More than half of the increase in segregation in the 2000s can be attributed to the rise of charter schools, whose numbers began to increase rapidly in the late 1990s. In many cases, white or Black families flocked to different charter schools.
