New preprint w/ Chris Baker: we scanned people watching memories they recorded w/ 1 Second Everyday from up to 7 yrs ago and find a memory content map w/ subregions for memory age, strength, and content (people & place) info in medial parietal cortex! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

New published paper with talia konkle! Object-classifying neural nets account for the visual similarity of letters, even better than networks actually trained to classify letters! Supports the view that letters are perceived via general object features. journals.plos.org/ploscompbiol/a…

My latest paper exploring what precisely characterizes visual stimuli as a scene, and thereby drives human cortical scene processing!

1/ Excited to share a new NeuroAI preprint: “What can 1.8 billion regressions tell us about the pressures shaping high-level visual representation in brains and machines?” Led by Colin Conwell, with Jacob Prince, cvnlab, and George Alvarez. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Our paper on face cells is out in Science Advances! We explore if we can capture the tuning of face cells using only non-faces, and what that tells us about the category-specificity of that tuning. 🧵1/N science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

Relatedly, we think biological vision has deep parallels with multi-augmentation self-supervised learning. Augmentations are like the model's "proto-eye movements" of the world. See work with George Alvarez: nature.com/articles/s4146… #NeuroAI

What do you see in these images? These are called hybrid images, originally proposed by Aude Oliva et al. They change appearance depending on size or viewing distance, and are just one kind of perceptual illusion that our method, Factorized Diffusion, can make.
