One the things that transparency policy thinking (for both governments and platforms) hasn’t really grappled with is that transparency past a certain point seems to reduce user/citizen trust. Now seems to be a robust result. academic.oup.com/jpart/advance-…

the thing about fucking up badly is that you can find a great deal of self knowledge and groundedness in fixing a massive disaster

Came across a parasitic orchid on Mount Tamalpais the other day: Corallorhiza maculata var. occidentalis. Cool thing I learned – this plant parasitizes the mycelium of mushrooms! In particular, those in the in the Russulaceae family. Didn’t know plants did that.

Think I saw a Northern Goshawk accosting a pair of Red-tailed Hawks today in Tilden. First time I’ve seen that. It was at least as big as the Red-tails, maybe slightly bigger. The only other bird bigger than a Red-tail I’ve seen behave this way was a Bald Eagle. Ballsy bird.

They say how you do anything is how you do everything. The flip side is the implication that you can change the way you do everything by changing the way you do something very small. That’s pretty fucking cool.

I really want there to be a “silent disco” platform in BART stations where you can rock out to whatever you’re listening to without looking like you’re on crack.

Look, you’ve got two options. Either make it super smooth and reliable to make changes to your production systems, and test that capability continually, or dramatically increase the chance of getting owned when a CVE comes out because it takes so long to safely apply the fix.

dX: Any advice on using AI in an organisation? Me: Sure. Understand your users, their needs, the components involved in meeting those needs and how evolved those components are BEFORE talking about AI.
