Video of Lauren Roberts being removed by law enforcement tonight from the City-County Council meeting as she tried to speak during the public comment period.

Council president Vop Osili said she went past the 2-minute limit and told sheriffs to remove anyone still talking.

Councilor Jared Evans said he was disgusted by Lauren being kicked out. “All I can say is that I’m sorry for those that are trying to be heard.”

🧵Options Behavioral Health Hospital didn’t call 911 after a 13-year-old girl was attacked by another patient, records show. Staff said her bruises would “go away in a few days,” the girl told Mirror Indy. They never sought emergency care.

🧵2/ The girl has epilepsy. After the attack, her seizures got worse. Her mom didn’t know how bad it was until she got home and took her to the doctor. Doctors found hematomas from head trauma. Experts confirmed Options should’ve sought immediate care to prevent lasting damage.

🧵3/ Options is owned by Acadia Healthcare, one of the largest chains of for-profit psychiatric hospitals in the US. Acadia declined to comment on the case, citing patient privacy. “We take all matters related to patient care and facility standards seriously,” said Options.

🧵4/ But, for more than a decade, Acadia has had a series of lawsuits and local and federal investigations across the country. A NYT investigation in 2024 found that Acadia facilities held people against their will when it wasn’t medically necessary to collect insurance money.

🧵5/ This isn’t the first time we’ve reported on alleged abuse at Options. Last year, we detailed widespread allegations of sexual abuse at the facility where former staff described how low staffing led to unsupervised patients fighting.

🧵6/ The family filed a complaint with the Indiana Dept. of Health. The state found Options failed to do safety checks before the attack & didn’t properly assess her injuries. As a result, Options was required to complete a plan of correction, a promise to do better next time.
