I think what we’re missing here is that behavior is communication. What is the function of the behavior? How can we support the students in their needs so they can participate productively?

But really if we pay them a living wage they will have the resources to pursue creative hobbies, learn new skills, maybe figure out what they love and how to do that for money if they want, interrupt generational trauma from poverty, and in general live easier lives.

I only found diagramming sentences helpful years later when i was learning foreign languages. It helped me understand how the English language worked, and I used that as a way to understand how other languages accomplished the same goals using different rules. I’m weird tho…

With respect, unless a system is also scheduling important events on Christmas/Easter, then scheduling the STARR test on Eid is othering. It’s not about “happy” or “preferences.” And making it up excludes those students from learning opportunities, excluding them further.
