George Sharples was a Bolton player and club captain 1881-82. He then became club treasurer. Also played for Great Lever Eventually went into teaching and promoted the introduction of football into the school curriculum He was also president of the N.U.T.

Posted on another site England squad. Year? They appear to be wearing club socks If so David Jack front 2nd left has Bolton Wanderers socks on. He has the ball at his feet which indicates he was probably captain on the day He left Bolton 1928 to go to Arsenal

The White Horse Public House, Kearsley, near Bolton still stands today. Was once the home of John William Sutcliffe Bolton and England. Represented his country at both codes. Also played for MUFC, Plymouth, Millwall, Southend
