The more I dig into research on structured literacy implementation, the more I find a lack of policies with the US that ensure a truly collaborative approach. There is little policy that reflects the importance of knowledgeable administrators and engaged parents. It takes a team!

Mississippi, North Carolina, and other states have set a clear example. Explicit, systematic reading instruction informed by SoR, professional learning for educators and admins, and aligned curriculum, screeners, and supports work for EVERY student. PA needs HB998. Jason Ortitay

This is why H.B. 998 is such an important step forward. True change requires hard and necessary work. Early literacy policy needs to follow the science, support each student, engage all stakeholders, and provide meaningful professional learning for teachers & admin.

This report highlights the importance of comprehensive literacy policy. Of particular note, the importance of including leaders in professional learning requirements. Teachers and students deserve knowledgeable literacy leaders.

On Monday at 10am in Irvis 515 and live-cast, the House Education committee will host a hearing on early literacy and student assessments.

This is another positive step in the journey toward guaranteeing an important right for every child.
