Led by Jakob T Rostøl and Nuria Quiles, with Lasa_Lab, we show that prophages utilise noncontiguous operons to balance immunity and autoimmunity. Our results underscore the essential fine regulation of these processes for prophages' life cycle development. nature.com/articles/s4156…

Just missing April fool's, here is something that is no laughing matter: nature.com/articles/s4156… In Nature Microbiology, we describe how a prophage avoids autoimmunity from its own defence systems

Our paper is finally out at Nature Microbiology. A team effort discovering Tailocin cell factories. Listeria monocytogenes bacteria produce and store ~6000 tailocins per cell in a remarkable way. nature.com/articles/s4156…

New mechanism of gene transfer! With Tiago Costa CBRB, cf-PICIs form tail-less elements that, once released, spread among different bacterial species by hijacking tails from various phages. More exciting news soon! shorturl.at/kRJqE

Happy to share our new preprint describing prophage encoded anti-phage defense system,TERi, that targets the terminase complex of invading phages to inhibit DNA packaging. The system also encode self immunity proteins that protect the prophage. biorxiv.org/content/biorxi…

Pleased to share our latest study Nature Communications. We show that the host metabolites fumarate and itaconate impose selective pressure on Staphylococcus aureus, driving its adaptation via the enzyme FumC. Grateful to all who contributed to this work! nature.com/articles/s4146…
