War of the Worlds is striking because of how it plays against Sci Fi tropes. Humans are generally well meaning and sacrificial (to a fault) and the aliens are just pure evil. The message of the movie definitely feels off, I am unsure what it is trying to say.

I've been trying to rewatch old Kaiju films through the lens of WWII and make an attempt to think about how a Japanese audience would understand them at the time. I've never done this with classic American scifi and it is clear this is what is going on with War of the Worlds 1953

On the other hand I am deeply interested in how Ann Robinson keeps her hair intact through several war zone scenes.

Forget what I said about humanity being nice in War of the Worlds 1953. Humanity turns on itself at the end.
