My new nature paper "Role Play with Large Language Models" was briefly behind a paywall. It's now free-to-read: nature.com/articles/s4158…

En software todo son tradeoffs, lo que pasa es que yo he visto en todos mis años de experiencia un camino de prácticas técnicas que te lleva a la excelencia y otro que te lleva al sufrimiento.

Wow! Sebastian Kälin and Christof Meier have shared with me this map of my GIST model which they used inside their company - download the PDF to get to the clickable areas. drive.google.com/file/d/130yAl8…

Using AI chatbots for customer support is unethical and bad business. I am unable to reach a real person at the Epic Games Store. When chatbots can't address a problem with canned answers or processes, the customer is stuck. Tim Sweeney Epic Games Store #AI #chatbots #ChatGPT

Life goal: to have a current job interesting and meaningful enough that you want to optimize your technical choices for success in it, instead of its ability to carry you to the next one.

Quick lesson in the dangers of data contamination. Years ago, I came up with an acronym for remembering the periods of the Paleozoic era — “Catastrophic Overthrow Started Different Colder Period”. I was curious if ChatGPT could guess what it stood for. 1/4

Beautiful! I just read it in Spanish because it's much closer to Italian than English, just as I always try to watch films in languages I don't understand well with subtitles. I love how he uses gravity to explore the concept of attraction, romantic and otherwise.

This is the foundational model I use for teaching product development. Does it make sense to you? jpattonassociates.com/continuous-pro…

Javier Lopez (@javisan81) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Quote below is from nytimes.com/2024/04/15/tec… in NY Times today. What evidence is there for this claim, besides "I talked to a chatbot and it seemed humanlike"? When given an actual Turing Test, chatbots tend to fail (arxiv.org/abs/2310.20216)

What does software development look like from the outside? I request N things. A few of them come out months later. Hence: these programmers need to work faster. 1/

TDD is programming hygiene. It keeps the code orderly while supporting incremental and iterative development with continuous integration. buff.ly/358qXHA

The Open Encyclopedia of Cognitive Science is a great project! I wrote a short explainer on large language models for this collection: oecs.mit.edu/pub/zp5n8ivs/r… Lots more articles on important cogsci concepts are at oecs.mit.edu/open-encyclope…
