ESA's #HeraMission launched six months ago! Hera has already been treated to exciting views of two planets and their moons, but there is much more to come once it reaches the asteroid Didymos and its moonlet, Dimorphos, in late 2026.🛰️🔎🪨🪨

On 13 April 2029, the 375-metre asteroid Apophis will safely whizz by Earth, passing closer to the surface than satellites in geostationary orbit. The flyby of Apophis offers a truly unique opportunity to learn more about asteroids and how to protect Earth.

ESA’s Ramses mission aims to intercept and escort Apophis through the flyby. By studying the asteroid’s physical properties, and how they change during the interaction with Earth’s gravity, scientists will learn a lot about how an asteroid responds to external forces.
