What do kids want most for their schools? Clean school compounds, drinking water, floor mats, benches, stationery. And sports materials! Yes, straight from the kids themselves! (1/2) #children #education #school #childrights Rupali Goswami Jatin Mondar Sudarshan S

🧵Education is key to upward socioeconomic mobility. While more kids have gained access to quality education over the past decade, by April 2020, 1.6 bln kids and youth were out of school. United Nations 's Sustainable Development Goal #4 is quality education. bit.ly/3785jtO (1/3)

#SDG4 aims that by 2030, all girls and boys complete free, equitable, quality primary and secondary education and have access to early childhood care, while women and men have equal access to affordable, quality technical, vocational education that skills them for jobs. (2/3)

Saamuhika Shakti partners work to address some of these goals - @stc_india works with kids from the waste picker community who are in school and out, and CARE India and Sambhav Foundation work on vocational training and entrepreneurship development among women and the youth. (3/3)

Access to safe spaces begins with #schools. This is where children are given opportunities to speak up & participate in matters affecting their future. @stc_india & I are all for #BringBackLearning, for it's the first step to creating the #AgencyOfChildren.

Have you ever seen the world from a child's lens? We have and want you to see it too. Tomorrow, we are launching 'The World As I See' – a photobook📒 capturing glimpses📸 of life, as clicked by Child Photographers in #Bengaluru's waste-picking community.

Pictures show the struggles children from the waste picker community face everyday - from the critical ( water access) to emotional & physical needs (no playgrounds) in stark reality. The book also makes us realise the need to create spaces to share their perspective.

We all do our bit to help save the environment. Some just do a lot more. Like our informal waste pickers, the #Invaluables. And they do it every single day. We can not only recognise them and their contribution on this #WorldEnvironmentDay but also learn from them.

It’s back-to-school season & kids have waited for this for over 2 yrs. For kids in waste picker communities, however, going to school was an uncertainty pre-pandemic, and the past 2 yrs made that worse. A UN report says 1.6 bln kids & youth were out of school by Apr 2020 (1/2)

In May, partner @stc_india identified kids who had dropped out of school & enrolled 76 of them at local govt schools & Anganwadi centres. 30 boys & 34 girls were from waste-picker families, 14 kids were from non-waste-picking families. (2/2) #SDG4 Rupali Goswami Jatin Mondar

Here’s how bottles become buttons. The process obviously helps the environment. This initiative has also extended the social impact of Saamuhika Shakti by creating jobs & income opportunities for waste pickers, making the circular economy more inclusive. #InclusiveCircularity
