Canada’s new govt will face a more hostile world than generations of Canadians have known. If Ottawa is serious about defending its interests, it will have to massively increase spending on defense & foreign affairs but also the education of future diplomats & security officials.

So the new German govt's Balkan policy is to redouble support to the Kremlin-aligned regime in Belgrade, and prop up the lame duck OHR BiH in Sarajevo, which serves as an offsite extension of Zagreb's HDZ. Angela Merkel may be retired but Merkelim is alive and well in Berlin.

Germany’s next FM is, as one colleague in Sarajevo described it, a “catastrophe” for Bosnia and Herzegovina and the W. Balkans, owing to his close ties Kremlin-backed autocrat Vucic, but also Orban. Expect to also register in Germany’s new-old views twd Ukraine & Russia.

Secessionist Dodik's language here, directly invoking a quasi-blood libel vs the Bosniak people, is his most overt call to resume the violence of the Bosnian Genocide. Despite an outstanding arrest warrant, he remains free. It is scandalous, a direct violation of the Dayton Agmt.

Profound anger ripping through the Bosnian and Bosniak publics today following Dodik’s comments. I warned for wks that as institutions delayed his arrest, possibilities for extra-institutional crises - vigilantism, in short - would mount. The BiH state must be seen to act ASAP.

The UK’s support for BiH remains crucial, especially British support for Sarajevo’s NATO bid. But the most immediate matter is the pending arrest of Kremlin-backed secessionist Dodik. Nothing in BiH or the region can move until Dodik is arrested & prosecuted. A singular priority.

Secessionist Dodik's psychological breakdown goes on, as he continues his blood libel, "race traitor" diatribe against Bosniak community in BiH. As I explained in "The Bosniaks", this is categorically genocidal rhetoric. Not enough for it to be condemned. He must be arrested.

This is a strong statement by the Labour Friends of Kosovo & the Western Balkans especially for its emphasis on UK support for BiH law enforcement in their effort to finally bring secessionist Dodik into custody. Of course, additional UK sanctions most welcome too but Dodik’s arrest the chief priority.
