when traditional media folks say media is dying, what they're really saying is their way of media is dying and they're frustrated that the world is evolving around them. media is actualy thriving.

starting to feel like the β€œads are bad” narrative became cultural dogma, repeated so long it’s assumed to be the majority view. but most people grew up with ads, see them as the background cost of access, and are actually way more annoyed by paywalls. behaviors > phiosophies.

one thing about consumer paid businesses is it's harder to put the genie back in the bottle. meaning, if your shit has been free forever and all of a sudden you decide "i'm going to charge for it", it 99% won't work (unless the product is drastically different & nuanced).

institutionalizing agentic behavior (ads, pruchases, trades, etc.) doesn’t address one of the most important truths in business: if you pay for something, you want a throat to choke. it’s harder to hold the technology accountable than a human. accountability is emotional.
