I feel like if people are unable to solve the mystery of “why am I getting paid six figures per YouTube video” then they may not be equipped to provide useful analysis on more complex political and cultural issues.

this is right imo — Twitter leaning heavily on engagement (often a symptom of insiders watching numbers go up after a tweak, but not a good measure of feed quality) also folks should notice the type of autoplay videos they're getting — garb similar to Facebook's Video player
