The latest jaguar sighting in Arizona. Most of the individuals seen in the states are lone males and I believe that’s the case here

If you can believe it, this is the same bird a year apart. We caught this gorgeous male Scarlet Tanager in 2024 and banded him. He flew all the way to South America for the winter and then came right back to Iowa where we caught him again in the same net.

Our paper on rodent thumbnails is out! Huge team effort. Turns out, nails can reveal a lot about rodent evolution. Shoutout to Dr. Gordon Shepherd for the wild idea to study their thumbs!

Rubisco is (arguably) the most abundant protein on Earth. (LPP surely comes close, right?) It’s an enzyme that fixes CO₂ into sugars during photosynthesis. Unfortunately, as most people learn in school, Rubisco is inefficient. Sometimes it confuses O₂ for CO₂ and wastes

Our new preprint on butterfly wing patterns, led by Moritz Lürig and with many fantastic collaborators. We use a large-scale database of museum images to quantify an aposematic axis and test how it structures phenotypic diversity in Nymphalidae biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Therizinosaurs are, without a doubt, some of the most interesting groups of theropod dinosaurs Here you have a selection of a few species that I reconstructed for the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum in Japan for their 25th Anniversary Special Exhibition
