Not every day I have the chance to celebrate truly interdisciplinary research. ShirFilo developed a groundbreaking #qMRI approach for measuring iron homeostasis in the brain, with a unique bottom-up phantom and top-down analysis of brain tumor protein and gene expressions.

📢Two postdoc positions are opening at Uni of Florence and Uni of Pisa. The project is a collaboration among myself, Paola Binda and Domenica Bueti. It will investigate serial dependence in visual numerosity and time perception, combining psychophysics, pupillometry and 7T fMRI.

BOLD statements about fMRI in white matter: the whole brain (both gray and white matter) shows signal time locked to tasks…biological? Functional? Artifact? Read here: pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…

We found large variations in crowding distance and retinotopic map size. These measures covary, conserving a 1.4-mm cortical crowding distance (object spacing on the cortical surface) in the V4 map, but not V1-V3. This links the spacing limit of recognition to overall V4 size.

Biggest medical discoveries of the week (🧵) 1. Why do some people get bitten by mosquitoes but others don't? It turns out that mosquitoes use three signals to pick their hosts: CO2 from breath, human odour, and the infrared radiation emitted by skin (nature.com/articles/s4158…)

You feel something is physically moving during a bistable illusion. While your brain can trick your eyes 👀, it cannot trick our scanner🧲 Our 7T fMRI results show a distinct feedback modulation between V1 & hMT+ in this illusion👇 Faruk Gulban layerfMRI Judith Peters Rainer Goebel
