The team at Southfield have been going through stock rams to work out tupping plans ahead of November. We’re always impressed with how easily these sheep flesh out with age and green grass on a truly commercial system. Cracking rams with performance and structure 💪

It’s been a busy couple of weeks for the project. At Southfield, the Innovis Ltd team have been training ram lambs to eat grass nuts in preparation for measuring their feed efficiency over the next couple of months.

We have a handful of high index North Country Cheviot tups become available due to an export job falling through. The lad in the video is a two shear bred at our nucleus in Hawick. He’s a son of an Armadale tup and has an index of £24.09, top 5% of the breed on Signet.

My two pence worth: 1) Don't listen to people on the internet, get professional advice for you & your business. 2) If you are struggling in light of the budget please please reach out to one of the many charities that can help. 3) The APR change is a smokescreen

AgResearch's Fern Booker presented at the NZSAP conference on 7 years of selection for production and reduced methane emissions in sheep. Methane was reduced by ~1%/year while making 68% faster progress in a production trait index compared to current industry progress. By 2050

Most flocks involved in the project are busy weighing and condition scoring their ewes before tupping. Some of our Centurion partners lambed their Dorset ewes in September and are measuring lamb growth at grass which are critical to build a holistic picture of carbon footprint.

Haemonchus contortus (the barber's pole worm) 💈🐑 Haemonchus is an abomasal blood sucking worm that can cause sheep to lose up to 250ml blood daily🩸 Historically, it was only seen in the South East, but we are now seeing more cases in Cumbria.

Nucleus ewes drafted into their tupping group at Southfield. Ewes handling well and will improve again in smaller groups for 10 days before tups are introduced. Been running in big mobs on rough grazing since weaning - selecting sheep that can thrive under pressure.

It's been a busy week at Southfield this week with the team taking PAC measurements from one group of lambs and another group in the feed efficiency trial. This is all being done as part of Breed for CH4nge. 🌅Early mornings made easier with beautiful sunrises.
